What is the Physicians Advocacy Initiative?
The Physicians Advocacy Initiative will be used to fund the advocacy efforts of Virginia’s medical community when a special campaign is necessary now or in the months and years to come. Today, Virginia’s physicians face an imminent threat to the stable medical malpractice environment. Your payment to the Physicians Advocacy Initiative will help MSV defend against any efforts that prevent Virginia from being one of the best places to practice medicine.

How does my participation in the initiative differ from my dues payment or MSVPAC contribution?
Payments to the Physicians Advocacy Initiative are leveraged with your dues dollars to maximize the impact of Virginia physicians’ advocacy efforts. While dues dollars make possible the member services that define MSV as a strong advocate for Virginia’s physicians, your participation in the Physicians Advocacy Initiative will allow us to take those efforts to a higher level when special campaigns are necessary, such as when our medical liability cap must be protected.

The activities resulting from the Physicians Advocacy Initiative are complementary to the political efforts of MSVPAC. Your contribution to MSVPAC is used to back General Assembly and statewide candidates who support MSV’s public policy and legislative agenda. Your payment to the Physicians Advocacy Initiative is used to strengthen the voice of Virginia’s physicians so that together we can best meet the challenges and opportunities for medicine today and in the future.

How will the Physician Advocacy Initiatives fund be used?
The funds raised through the Physician Advocacy Initiative will help MSV launch a formidable and targeted campaign that will combat any opponent’s well-organized and well-financed attempt to threaten the strength of Virginia’s health care environment. Specifically, the powerful voice of Virginia’s physicians will be amplified through accelerated lobbying efforts, Virginia-specific evidence-based research, and intensified grassroots activities. The result will be better informed medical and legislative communities that understand the need for proactive solutions to issues that affect the well-being of Virginia’s patients.
